What is Marrakesh?
Marrakesh is a city located in Morocco in North Africa. It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Morocco, known for its rich history and strong preservation of traditional culture.
The old city, known as the Medina, is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and because most of the buildings are made from red-colored earth, Marrakesh is often called the “Red City.” The city is also known for its traditional architecture, including bustling souks (markets), palaces, and mosques.
For travelers, Marrakesh is widely recognized as a place where desert, Arab, and Berber cultures blend together. Popular experiences include exploring the spice markets, discovering historic architecture, and enjoying rooftop restaurants with views of the city.
Recommended Restaurants & Cafés in Marrakesh
What restaurants or cafes would you recommend? ● Argana: A great dinner spot overlooking Jemaa El-Fnaa, especially in the evening when the square comes alive. ● Zeitoun Café: Perfect for lunch and delicious traditional Moroccan dishes. ● The food stalls in Jemaa El-Fnaa are a must-try for the full local experience. ● Cafés near Menara Mall are ideal for a relaxed traditional Moroccan breakfast and Western foods. You’re honestly spoiled for choice, whether you prefer street food or sit-down restaurants.
Accommodation Recommendations & Getting Around Tips in Marrakesh
Where did you stay during your trip? I stayed at Kenzi Rose Garden, and I absolutely loved it. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. We really lucked out with the location; it was within walking distance of key areas. But taxis are also easy and readily available throughout the city if you prefer not to walk.
How did you book your flight/get there? I booked through easyJet Holidays, which included flights, a hotel, and airport transfers. It made everything simple and completely stress-free. I’d definitely recommend this option if you like having everything organised.
How long did you stay? I stayed for about a week, which I think is ideal. It gives you enough time to explore, shop, relax, and add in something adventurous.
Must-Try Activities in Marrakesh
What activities or attractions would you recommend? ● Exploring Jemaa El-Fnaa, the main square in the evening, is where you’ll find the famous food stalls and buzzing atmosphere. ● Getting lost in the souks behind the square, a maze of narrow alleys lined with artisan shops. ● Visiting the Koutoubia Mosque, a beautiful example of Moroccan architecture and history. ● Quad bike riding just outside the city was one of the highlights of the trip, and so much fun. And one important tip: always haggle in the souks. Bargaining is part of the culture and expected. Stay friendly, smile, and enjoy the process.
