Women now make up about 54.4% of the solo-travel market

Solo travel keeps growing worldwide. Recent market research estimates that in 2023 about 16% of global travelers went solo—nearly 3x higher than in 2011. By 2024, the solo travel market reached roughly $48.2B, and forecasts suggest it could climb to around $107B by 2030.
What’s especially notable: women now account for approximately 54.4% of the solo travel segment. Analysts point to several drivers—greater economic independence, shifting values around life and travel, the rise of online communities, and an increase in women-only travel programs. In short, more women are traveling on their own—and they’re looking for safe, meaningful ways to connect.

The women’s travel market is booming—and global brands are taking notice

As demand rises, more companies are focusing on women travelers. One of them is NomadHer (France/Korea), a global women’s travel community app that helps women explore the world safely and freely. Beyond content, NomadHer builds confidence and connection through programs and festivals that center women empowerment and real-life community.

Around the world, other players are contributing to the ecosystem as well:

  • The Solo Female Traveler Network (U.S.): intimate, women-only group trips designed for connection and cultural immersion

  • JourneyWoman (Canada): over 30 years of trusted content and resources for independent women travelers

  • Sisterhood Travels (U.S.): group trips tailored to women 45+

  • Wander Womaniya (India): women-only tours across India and Asia

Together, these platforms signal a clear shift: women are shaping the future of solo travel—and they expect safer spaces, richer connections, and stronger support.

NomadHer hosts festivals worldwide for women travelers

Against this backdrop, NomadHer hosts annual global festivals designed by and for women travelers. From Paris and Bali to Busan and Seoul, NomadHer festivals bring together women travelers, founders, and leaders to share stories, build skills, and imagine what empowered travel can look like.

In September, NomadHer gathered at Station F in Paris for ‘She Can Travel Paris 2025’. More than 500 women from 180+ countries joined founders, CEOs, and community leaders for a day of exchange and inspiration. Now in its 7th year, the festival focused on empowerment and global networking with sessions like:

  • Travel as Resistance — re-framing travel as a force for self-agency and social change

  • Women Beyond the Border — cross-border stories of courage, career, and community

“The inspiring speakers and diverse workshops were incredible.”
“Meeting women who share the same love for travel was truly meaningful.”
“The positive energy and global networking gave me the strength to try solo traveling again.”

Paris International Women’s Day Festival at Station F, Paris

On Saturday, September 27, NomadHer hosted the She Can Travel Paris 2025 at Station F, the world’s largest startup campus in Paris.

More than 500 women travelers, startup founders, and female leaders from over 180 countries gathered together. It was not just about “travel” but about empowerment and global networking, where women shared stories and experiences that transcended borders.

Keynotes and Talk Shows

The festival opened with an inspiring keynote by Hyojeong Kim, founder of NomadHer, who shared how women travelers’ voices can change the world.

Talk Show Panel 1: Travel as Resistance

The first panel explored travel not just as an “escape” or “holiday,” but as an act of reclaiming agency and self-expression. Speakers emphasized the power of women traveling freely, raising their voices, and reshaping perspectives.

  • Valentine (@osezplusloin): Shared her solo travel coaching experience, guiding women on budget, planning, and mindset.

  • Emma Garnier (@thefrenchwanderess): A former clinical psychologist helping women overcome fear and build resilience through solo travel.

  • Danna-Fé Astier (Co-founder of Her Third Place, @herthirdplace): Introduced her philosophy of fostering “authentic connections without performance” through her community.

  • Anne-Sophie Roux (@ansroux): An ocean activist leading global campaigns against deep-sea mining and practicing women’s leadership in public arenas.

Talk Show Panel 2: Women Beyond the Border

The second panel highlighted stories of women crossing borders, languages, and cultures — a session that resonated deeply with those navigating international careers and entrepreneurship.

  • Louise Aubery (@louiseaubery): Shared how she built influence around body positivity, women’s rights, and personal branding.

  • Caroline Loyer (@carolinelyr): Spoke about interpreting global issues and communication strategies from her experience with BBC and France 24.

  • Laura De Dilectis (@laura.dedilectis): Introduced tech-driven, nonprofit initiatives supporting women’s safe journeys home.

  • Cynthia Asije (@adirelounge): Showcased Adirelounge’s work creating sustainable fabrics from agro-waste and using digital passports to trace social and environmental impact.

Workshops

In the afternoon, participants joined three interactive tracks — Safe Solo Travel, Storytelling, and Remote Careers — choosing sessions that matched their interests.

  • Osez Voyager en Solo: Offered actionable roadmaps on planning, budgeting, and mindset for solo journeys.

  • Solo, Not Lonely by Her Third Place: Danna-Fé Astier shared how to design offline communities and build meaningful relationships as solo travelers.

  • We Move by Hind Yahiaoui (@hindyahiaoui): An expressive body movement session exploring connection, liberation, and self-expression.

  • Overcoming Fear Through Journaling & Healing Writing Practice

  • DIY Travel Keychain Making

These workshops allowed participants to not just listen but actively engage, creating practical takeaways for their journeys.

Bachata Class, Music Concert and Networking Dinner

The day continued with vibrant activities that blended culture, creativity, and connection.

  • Bachata Class: Led by Cécile (@vuelta_sol), this class went beyond dance techniques, helping participants embrace joy, expression, and confidence. With or without prior dance experience, everyone was able to enjoyed moving freely to the rhythm.

  • Music Concert: As evening fell, the stage came alive with Lexy Weaver (@lexy_weaver), a singer and vocal coach with a powerful voice, and Clandestina (@clandestina_official), a multilingual rapper and activist, who energized the audience with their performances.

Networking Dinner: To close the day, speakers, travelers, and participants gathered for a curated dinner. Conversations that began in panels flowed naturally at the table, creating opportunities for deeper connections and shared inspiration.

Beyond Travel: A Movement of Empowerment

The She Can Travel Paris 2025 was more than a celebration of travel. It was a platform where women raised their voices, inspired one another, and built meaningful global networks.

Feedback from attendees shows that the festival was not just a “fun event” but a transformative experience that impacts both life and career.

Since 2019, NomadHer has hosted women traveler festivals in Paris, Bali, and Busan, alongside offering services like global meet-ups and solo travel matching. All these efforts are part of our mission: to empower women around the world to travel with confidence and courage, and to make their voices heard.
