Our chartered bus heads south while Seoul wakes up. Catch up on sleep, get to know the woman next to you or watch the city turn into rice fields and mountains; your reset starts the moment you sit down.

Our first stop is one of Naju’s most beloved tables. Hayanjip has been serving its clear beef soup for generations, and a warm bowl with rice and kimchi is the best way to land in Jeolla, the region Koreans call the country’s kitchen.

We walk slowly under rows of towering metasequoias with a guide who shows us how to really breathe in a forest. Phones stay in the bag, the pace stays gentle and for once there’s nowhere else you need to be.

Home for the night is a traditional hanok looking straight out to the Hampyeong sea. Drop your bags, slide open the doors and take a minute with the view before we head out for sunset.

As the light turns golden, we roll out our mats facing the sea for an hour of gentle yoga. It’s open to every level, and it’s often the moment the weekend really starts to sink in.

Dinner is Korean BBQ in the hanok courtyard, with meat sizzling on the grill and plenty of side dishes to share. The conversation usually carries on long after the plates are empty under the curved hanok roof.

No alarms this morning. Wake up when your body wants to, wander out in your sweater and have breakfast with the sea right in front of you. There’s time to pack slowly before check-out at 11:00am.

Muan is famous across Korea for its small, tender octopus, and this hanjeongsik set brings it to the table in every way you can imagine alongside a spread of local side dishes. Come hungry, because it’s a feast.

A cozy stop for coffee and dessert before our last forest. Order whatever you like and enjoy one more slow chat with the group (personal expense).

Our final stop is all about doing less. Swing in a hammock between the trees, take a barefoot walk on the forest path and finish with a warm foot bath and a cup of Korean tea; it’s the softest way to close a weekend.

We board the bus back north, lighter than we came. We’ll stop once at a Korean rest stop for dinner (personal expense) and arrive at Seoul Station around 9:00pm, depending on traffic.
