[App Updates] How to Find a Female Travel Buddy While Traveling Alone?

The NomadHer App offers the fastest ways to find your female travel buddy in just 10 seconds. Take a moment to explore its upgraded function, designed to help you find the perfect

May 30, 2023

The NomadHer App offers the fastest ways to find your female travel buddy in just 10 seconds. Take a moment to explore its upgraded function, designed to help you find the perfect travel companion you're looking for.

Recognizing the thrill and excitement of solo travel, the NomadHer team understands the significance of meeting like-minded women along the way. With this upgraded function, you can easily connect with female travelers who are traveling in the same city and have similar itineraries, enriching your adventures in ways you never imagined.

How Did the Team Come Up with the Idea?

Valuing User Feedback: Putting People's Voices at the Forefront

At our core, we prioritize user satisfaction and constantly strive to enhance our services based on user input. Through diligent monitoring and analysis, we gain valuable insights into how users engage with our app. We appreciate the invaluable feedback and suggestions shared by our users, which serve as catalysts for continuous improvement

In recent months, our dedicated design team has actively engaged with app users, conducting interviews to delve deeper into their perspectives and experiences with the app.

Among the recurring feedback we received, a common desire emerged: the need for improvements in the Travel Buddy function. Users expressed their preference for more streamlined connections with fellow female travelers through the NomadHer platform.

Taking these valuable insights into account, we were committed to refining the Travel Buddy function to better cater to the desires and preferences of our users. By applying user feedback and integrating it into our development process, we aimed to create a seamless and enriching experience for our community of travelers.

People’s voice always matters to us, and we are dedicated to creating an app that truly meets your needs and aspirations.

How We Upgraded the Travel Buddy Function of the App

The journey to upgrade the Travel Buddy function started with a deep dive into user feedback. We conducted numerous interviews to understand the pain points and challenges faced by NomadHers when searching for travel companions. Armed with this valuable information, our dedicated team gathered around the table for a brainstorming session, aiming to find effective solutions.

During our discussions, we focused on three key questions that guided our efforts:

  1. What makes NomadHers feel uncomfortable with the current function?: We delved into the aspects of the current function that made users feel uneasy or dissatisfied. By pinpointing these pain points, we could develop targeted improvements to enhance the overall experience.
  2. How can we improve the process of finding a travel buddy?: Our aim was to streamline the process of finding a travel buddy, making it more intuitive and efficient. Through careful consideration of user feedback, we sought to create a seamless and user-friendly interface that simplifies the search for compatible travel companions.
  3. How will female travelers use this new function?: Understanding how our female travelers would utilize the upgraded function was crucial. We envisioned their unique needs and preferences, ensuring that the new features would empower them to connect with like-minded individuals and embark on memorable adventures together.

One prominent issue we identified was the mixing of posts in the lounge section, making it challenging to find travel buddy-related content. To address this, our first step was to categorize users based on their travel status: those planning to travel, those already exploring a new city, and locals.

With this categorization in mind, we are developing a dedicated page where users can effortlessly find female travel buddies based on their desired dates and destinations. This new feature will offer a more targeted and efficient approach to connecting with potential travel companions.

How do I meet other solo female Travellers? : Women’s Day campaign recap in Seoul

April 25, 2023

Attention all women who love to travel solo and are seeking a supportive community to explore the world with confidence! NomadHer, a community that is dedicated to ensuring safe travel for women, has organized amazing Women's Day events and festivals for women in Seoul and Paris every March and October.

Last October, NomadHer proudly hosted the Seoul Female Globetrotter Festival, which brought together over 100 women from all over the world at the Google Startup Campus in Seoul. With the backing of Google Startup Campus and the support of nine amazing Korean brands, including Yanolja, Melixer, and Yullip, this festival aimed to inspire and empower women to carve their own paths in their fields and become the heroines of their own stories.

The festival presented an incredible opportunity for women to interact with digital nomads and female entrepreneurs, discovering innovative ways to build a community for women. Moreover, as they networked, the participants bonded closely by sharing their experiences and participating in activity classes like hula dancing together.

NomadHer's events are an amazing opportunity to connect with like-minded women, establish new friendships, and gain valuable insights and experiences from fellow travelers. Whether you are an experienced solo traveler or someone who is just getting started, this is an event you cannot afford to miss if you want to explore the world confidently and safely.

Why Are Women's Events So Important?

As we talked with various participants at the festival, we heard a recurring opinion that there should be more events for women in South Korea. Here is what they said:

"I felt more comfortable and at ease while networking because it was a festival for women. I was also impressed by the sincere interest and attentive listening of fellow participants."

"Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily I could communicate with women from different countries like the U.S. and France. Through this festival, I realized that language barriers and cultural differences cannot prevent people from connecting.

After receiving valuable feedback from each participant, the team put their heads together to brainstorm. We discovered that women of all ages, from their 20s to their 60s, were traveling solo and pursuing their dreams. We contemplated what kind of support we could offer to empower these women. This led us to consider the one-month Women's Day event held this March.

We thought about how we could make it more accessible to women and encourage them to travel alone. With this in mind, we came up with the idea of a one-month campaign that would feature female travelers like us. This was something that the NomadHer team had always been passionate about and excelled at.

Start Your Solo Female Travel Journey in Your Own City

The NomadHer community attracts women of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds who aspire to travel solo. From recent high school graduates taking their first solo trip to retirees embarking on a journey just for themselves, NomadHer is a welcoming space for all.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced traveler, NomadHer offers real-time information and safety tips to help you overcome the fear of traveling alone. These tips include recommendations for safe cities for women and guidance on how to start small and build your confidence.

One such tip mentioned on the platform is to take small trips. Just like you can't run a marathon without training, it's important to start with a single step and take things one day at a time. Even if it's just exploring your local area with fresh eyes, it can encourage you to embrace the spirit of travel right where you are.

After all, traveling isn't just about going to far-off places and spending money. It's about cultivating a mindset of adventure and exploration, no matter where you are in the world. So why not start your solo travel journey today, right in your own backyard?

By organizing events for women, our goal was to provide women with the chance to experience the essence of solo travel by taking walks in familiar places around Seoul, our beloved city this time. Depending on who accompanies you, even the most frequently visited places can feel like unexplored territories, turning everyday life into a thrilling adventure.

We hope that you'll embrace the charm of traveling solo, where you arrive as a lone adventurer but depart with new friends. Traveling alone is not a far-off aspiration but a dream that you can fulfill right where you live.

NomadHer Sisterhood | Exploring Gapyeong Hiking Trail: An Adventure for Female Travelers

Have you ever caught a glimpse of students on a bus and felt nostalgic about the lively get-togethers you had with your school friends? It's what we call "memories", the things we have forgotten as adults but still remain in our hearts.

We prepared a gathering for women where just looking at each other could bring smiles and a strong sense of camaraderie. We headed to Gapyeong, the mecca of gatherings in Korea.

With excitement in our hearts, like going on a spring picnic, we set off on the Gapyeong hiking trail. What kind of memories did we create on that day?

✅Treasure Hunting and Yongchu Valley: A Unique Experience on the Gapyeong MT Trip

가평천사.jpg
가평걷는.jpg

The Gapyeong MT (Membership Training) trip covered a distance of 9.4km and offered a unique experience of escaping the bustling cities and traveling back in time. Our aim was to give the participants a day away from their daily routines. As we walked along the picturesque trail, we encountered various fascinating experiences at every turn.

Collecting stamps on a stamp book at each course was quite charming. Dancing on the stage of Nado Star Jat Market filled us with pride, and the healing time spent amidst phytoncide and treasure hunting at Yongchu Valley was invigorating. Women from France, Spain, and Korea danced together to the music of Hype Boy by Newjeans. Their beautiful performance brought everyone closer, and we felt the power of K-pop music.

Later, everyone joined in the dance, whether they were professional dancers or audience. We relished the local food at the market, and sharing the nutty makgeolli made it even more delicious. As we indulged in treasure hunts, danced, and savored the first-ever bean soup, we felt a sense of nostalgia. Looking back, we realized how much we might have missed the things we loved by being too busy with our daily routines.

As we gazed upon the stunning view of Yongchu Valley, we were momentarily lost for words. Sometimes, words like "it's amazing!" fall short of describing the breathtaking beauty of nature. Looking at the Yongchu Valley sprawled out before us, we were reminded that stunning nature was always around us.

✅ Professional Female Hiking Guide & Founder of Travel Master, a Korean Outdoor Startup.

가평 계곡.jpg
가평밥.jpeg

NomadHer has collaborated with female entrepreneurs who are forging their own paths in various fields. This time, we teamed up with Travel Master's representative, Myeong-soo, who leads a Korean outdoor startup, to create a Gapyeong trip for women.

How did Myeong-soo, an ordinary office worker who loved outdoor activities, come to start a business with her passion? She pursued outdoor-related certifications and honed her expertise, eventually launching her own company. Thanks to her, we had a more immersive experience on the trail, with expert explanations that we wouldn't have otherwise considered.

As a fellow female outdoor enthusiast, Myeong-soo took great care to ensure the safety of women experiencing outdoor activities for the first time. Thanks to her efforts, we were able to complete the over 9 km-long trail without incident. Be sure to check out the Jeju Chuja-do island camping trip with Myeong-soo on the NomadHer app now!

When it comes to NomadHer local travel, one of the things you can't miss is the delicious food that locals eat. It's said that the most delicious food in the world is the one shared after sweating together. At a local restaurant in Gapyeong, participants' eyes widened at the sight of a healthy, seasonal farm table filled with dishes made from fresh ingredients. Especially foreign friends were surprised and asked if they could finish all the side dishes on the table. After the journey, the feeling of relaxation was complete when colleagues who had shared the experience together drank Gapyeong's famous cool pine nut makgeolli.

One participant said, "I was surprised to see so many programs prepared for a day trip. From the Jatgoeul Market, the jat-kongjuk(pine nut bean porridge), and makgeolli we ate there, to a dance competition and treasure hunt, it felt like an enriching trip. The breathtaking scenery of Yongchu Canyon is still unforgettable."

NomadHer's local trips come with various programs, including region-specific activities and meals that let you experience local flavors. Check out NomadHer surfing camp in Busan, held every other week from April to September!

NomadHer Connect: Start Your Solo Trip in Your City - Seoul

When you think of Seoul, South Korea, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Most people probably envision iconic landmarks such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Namsan Tower, and the Han River. Although the Han River is a well-known attraction in Seoul, do you really know much about it? Perhaps you have been hesitant to visit alone, feeling a bit awkward about going solo.

But is there a better place than the Han River to experience the feeling of traveling alone? That is why the NomadHer team held a Han River netwalking event. On a sunny weekend morning, 40 female travelers gathered at Yeouido Park, ready to escape their daily routines and feel the warm spring breeze blowing over the river.

The group consisted of locals and female travelers from all over the world, including Singapore, Russia, India, and France, who shared a love for Korea and its capital city. After greeting each other with casual hellos, they naturally gathered in small groups to chat and exchange stories in various languages. It was an impressive sight to see the group of strangers connect so easily and form a bond over their shared love for travel.

✅ Touch in the Music: A Time to Wake Up and Break the Ice

댄스옆 걷기.jpg
한강댄스.jpg

Before embarking on a walking tour along the river, we prepared a program to wake up our bodies and break the ice among participants. It's called "Touch Her Body" time. We formed a circle in the spacious area of Yeouido Park and touched each other's bodies to upbeat music. When the music started, some enthusiastic participants began to move first. Others soon followed suit, and everyone began to relax and approach their new friends with ease.

It turns out that getting to know people can be surprisingly simple - just take a step closer to the person next to you! If you feel lonely when traveling alone, think about this: other people are probably waiting for you to start the conversation too. All you have to do is take that one step forward. Your solo travel experience will change from that moment on.

✅ Discovering the Han River on a Walking Trip with Female Travelers: What to See

한강경치.jpg
한강단체.jpg

We embarked on a 6.5 km, two-hour walk from Yeouido Park to Mangwon Hangang Park, discovering various breathtaking sights of the Han River that we had never imagined before.

The journey began at Yeouido Park, which is the flagship park of the Han River. From the very first step, it felt like a soulful expedition with the Han River by our side. This was also where the participants started chatting about the beauty of Seoul.

Walking across Seogang Bridge felt like gliding on the vast Han River. Although many of us had seen the Han River before, for many others, it was their first time walking over a bridge above the river, and they found it enchanting. We paused to take a photo of the Han River and to see Bamseom Island, famous for migratory birds.

The path to Mangwon Park, the final destination on the course, felt like strolling through a woodland. It had a charming local character and was beloved by the local community. As we walked, we all grew closer, conversing about a range of topics from travel and career to interests. This event allowed women to discover the various charms of the Han River and network with other female travelers.

"I have lived in Seoul for a long time, but I never knew that the Han River could be this enjoyable. Thanks to this opportunity, I have seen the Han River from a new perspective. Walking while conversing with new people made me feel closer to them. On this occasion, I'm thinking of visiting other parks along the Han River."

NomadHer Enjoy | Female DJ Music Party in Seoul

DJ.jpg
DJ2.jpg

Did you know that there are many talented female DJs in Seoul? NomadHer has been at the forefront of promoting female artists through collaborations with festivals, illustration challenges, and other events. At the NomadHer Seoul music party held at Social Haven, a chic bar and cultural space in HaeBangChon, attendees had the opportunity to meet and enjoy performances by a diverse group of female artists, including three active female DJs in Seoul: Suher Chandi, Grace Kim, and Sehee Shay, as well as NomadHer's own developer and DJ, Mechant Chaton.

The music party was an open event, aligned with NomadHer's values and philosophy of encouraging more women to challenge themselves and travel, regardless of race, age, gender, or nationality. It lasted late into the night and provided a chance not only to enjoy great music and delicious food but also to meet friends from diverse backgrounds and have engaging conversations.

One participant shared, "I felt like I was experiencing the local bar scene while traveling abroad. It was great to meet so many talented female DJs active in Korea. Seeing everyone juggling their day jobs while still enjoying Seoul's nightlife was impressive. I'm looking forward to the next party, where I can fully enjoy the music and meet more amazing women from different backgrounds.

The Art of Solo Travel : Unforgettable Moments Shared by Passionate Solo Travelers

During the Seoul campaign for women, the NomadHer community members enthusiastically stepped up to create a lively atmosphere at the event. In particular, Sohyun and Minju, both active members of the community, warmly greeted first-time attendees and assisted with ice-breaking activities, moving from group to group. They generously gave away She Can Travel Anywhere sweatshirts and t-shirts to the participants, taking beautiful photos and videos of the event as well. Through their participation in various NomadHer meetups, they have become close friends and now serve as the community's dedicated supporters.

봉사자1.jpg
봉사자2.jpg

Sohyun, who hosts a walking tour in Suwon Hwaseong, has broadened her perspective through NomadHer by meeting diverse people and seeing the world through their eyes. She exchanged unique travel stories with the participants and was surprised to find similar travel styles and hear fascinating tales of unexplored destinations.

Minju, who participated in the Digital Nomad Aphero and Cherry Blossom Picnic meetups last year, was amazed at the number of women who are sincere about traveling and personal growth through NomadHer. Having worked on a working holiday in Paris, she found herself discussing her experience in Paris and Seoul with friends from Paris. At this event, she had a great time networking with many professionals in the same field.

NomadHer values the bond between community members, and many events are created with the involvement of the members. For those who missed this event, NomadHer has prepared new trips where you can join and be part of the community. Download the NomadHer app and meet female travelers!

January 13, 2023

When I graduated High School in the US and decided to take a gap year to travel, I would never have imagined that less than half a year later, I would be in France finishing my first internship. Even more than that, I would not have dreamt of being able to intern for a company that's mission is helping other women also realize the empowering experience of solo traveling!

Hello, my name is Gloria, I am 18 years old and am on a gap year before college and for the past three months, I have had the honor to be in an internship program for students for NomadHer in Paris, France! I saw this opportunity for the first time over the summer in an email from LinkedIn, and I almost didn’t apply based on my assumption that I would be chosen for such an amazing opportunity. But I am so glad that I did apply because along with a few other offers, I received an email from Hyojeong Kim, founder, and CEO of NomadHer, letting me know that they would like me to intern in Paris for the next three months!

When I arrived in Paris and at Station F, I was in awe of all of the innovation, ideas, and passionate people I was surrounded with, and made so many new friends and connections that I am sure I will maintain for years and years from now. As things got into motion, I began to work on preparations for the Paris Female Globetrotter Festival, the main event that I would be working on planning alongside the Paris NomadHer Team.

The more we got into the work, the more I began to learn from everyone on the team and from everything I was able to experience.

From cross-cultural communications to PR communication and marketing working online with teammates who were in different countries, every day brought with it new learning, experiences, and fun. Not only did I meet so many people through the NomadHer team, but also through meetups in Paris and the Female Globetrotter Festival. No matter how much work we had to do, the team would always make an effort to complete every task with so much attention and passion– it was impossible to not be inspired by such a dedicated team!

It is almost impossible to pinpoint my favorite memory from the internship, but October 29th, the day of the Female Globetrotter Festival, is definitely up there. After weeks of brainstorming, reaching out to the community, and work, we were finally able to bring the Festival together. Seeing a room full of women travelers from all over the world and with the sound of amazing conversation and sharing of stories was incredible.

To this day, I still remain in contact with many of the women that I met during my first remote internship for NomadHer in Paris, and through my travels, I continue to meet NomadHers everywhere I go. During this gap year, I knew that I wanted to travel solo to learn about myself and the world, but I got something even better. I got the chance to learn about the world through the beautiful conversations, connections, and friendships that are created in the NomadHer community, and that is the best travel experience I could ever ask for. She Can Travel Anywhere!

Over 30000 female travelers from 178 countries are waiting for meeting you. Download the NomadHer app now and connect and meet travelers.  You can participate in various meetups, and travel camps and read the travel guide which is made for women now!

👩 Gloria Kuzmenko-Latimer lives in the U.S. She recently graduated from high school. She is an avid language learner so now she can speak English, Russian, French, Ukrainian, and Korean. Learning a new language and Traveling is her passion. After an internship in Paris with NomadHer during her gap year, She starts going on a trip to explore the world.

App Update: A New Payment Function and A Meetup Page Renewal [6.4.5]

From tons of feedback that we received from users’ interviews and surveys, we found out the following top 5 dilemmas our users had while signing up for meetups on the app:

December 12, 2022

From tons of feedback that we received from users’ interviews and surveys, we found out the following top 5 dilemmas our users had while signing up for meetups on the app:

  1. Make the more simple payment process
  2. Check all the information about each meetup at once
  3. Able to see who will participate in meetups
  4. Contact directly to meetup host
  5. Mark the meet-up location with a map

With our product team, we tried to look into the user journey for the meetup and payment section. First, it wasn’t easy to check all the information at once on a page as users wanted.

Then secondly, the payment system was complicated. It made users go through several steps to finish their payment using another external page. These issues created confusion in the process of using the NomadHer app. For building more user engagement and a better user journey, our team developed these features in Dec.

We’re excited to announce the launch of a big important feature: A New Payment Function and A Meetup Page Renewal [6.4.5]! 🎉

A simple payment process to make it easier to sign up for meetups

It would be good to pay within the app instead of asking to go to other links and check detailed information and payment.

-- C. Rebecca(NomadHer user)

A lot of NomadHers had the same difficulties. Now, in the Meetups section of the app, If you click the meetup program that you want to participate in, you will see all the information arranged organized way by the tab bar above.

And then if you click the Register for Meetup button on the bottom, the only process left to finish your participation is to put in your payment information and that’s it! In this way, you can finish quickly and look around at other meetups that you are interested in.

KakaoTalk_20221212_175110224_02.jpg
KakaoTalk_20221212_175110224_01.jpg

So how about wandering around on the Meetup page to check and participate in upcoming events?

Q&A

  • I’m interested in this program but I don’t know how to write a good article
  • A good article is always talking for the audience and this is a big difference from writing a diary. These days, what people want to read is dealing with the specific subject with the writer’s inspiration/view. You can start with the city where you live. For example, 7 ways that locals enjoy their weekend. If you like to visit cafes, you can write about 10 local cafes that have a unique concept.😊 Believe everything you have done by now can be your content!
  • There are 3 online networking meetings during this 2 months program from Jan to February. Is it mandatory to attend?
  • It is not mandatory to attend these online networking sessions. The reason that we provide this is that it will help you keep writing and getting energy from each other. Writing can be lonely work sometimes, but your fellow writing mate and NomadHer team will be your cheerleader. 🥰
  • I have more questions about this program. Who do I contact in this case?
  • You can contact aloha@nomadher.com & soyeon@nomadher.com! Any question is welcome. We will reply asap. 😉

Full Story of 3 Winners in the NomadHer Illustration challenge 2022

November 25, 2022

Last Sep, the 2nd NomadHer illustration challenge opened for the official poster of the globetrotter festivals 2022 which was held in the 3 global cities of Seoul, Paris, and San Francisco under the theme of She Can Travel Anywhere

Many NomadHers from all different parts of the world have participated. The competitive rate for getting the first prize was around 156 to 1. We appreciate all of you who have participated in the NomadHer illustration challenge! Here are the stories of the 3 winners and we hope you enjoy them.

She can travel anywhere, Chenwei Xu, USA

🔸Why did you participate?

Hello! I’m Chenwei. I was originally from Shanghai, now I am based in Los Angeles. My passion is motion graphics and illustration. I am always seeking to apply powerful storytelling to my work.

🔸What did you want to express through your work?

I want to create my illustration with women traveling to different places worldwide, and all the landmarks are reachable and inspiring in Nomadher's beautiful color palette. As a travel lover, I want to adopt a cultural-exchange mentality when creating this illustration. I hope this illustration can inspire people to share travel stories and culture.

🔸What is the meaning of solo travel for you based on your experience?

Solo travel takes me out of my comfort zones. It challenges me to experience new things, to embrace adventures on my own. My first solo trip experience was in New York in 2018. There were many things I needed to be prepared and think about on my own during a solo trip: safety, budget, language, schedule, etc. What I also enjoyed about that experience was the freedom. I don't need to follow others' preferences and plans. I can decide what to visit, eat, or see. It was an empowering and life-changing experience. I do become more confident and independent.

🔸What do you think about the NomadHer community?

NomadHer is a very inspiring and supportive community. It empowers every solo traveler to step out and experience new things, to participate, engage and learn.

When the wind rises, I am free, Amina Rakhimzhanova, Kazakhstan

🔸Why did you participate?

Hi, I am Amina from Kazakhstan. I participated in this competition because I thought it was an amazing chance to allow my voice to reach the like-minded people around me that share similar experiences of being a woman traveler.

🔸What did you want to express through your work?

As women in today’s society, we might feel discouraged to travel alone for understandable reasons. Traveling might seem like a scary and lonely journey for some of us, and thus hinder us from trying something new. In my artwork, I tried to address this issue by expressing the empowering message of “we, as women, are free to travel, and express ourselves however we want”. That’s why I titled my work “When the wind rises, I am free”. Even though there might be “wind” or obstacles that try to sweep us from our true potential, at the end of the day, we are free, and we can be whoever we want to be.

🔸What is the meaning of solo travel for you based on your experience?

I think solo traveling is about exploring the hidden parts of yourself and realizing your true potential as an individual. As a current international student who lives far away from home, I have discovered that solo traveling can be a meditative experience in exploring who you really are, but more importantly, it’s about discovering what you can be.

🔸 What do you think about the NomadHer community?

I met the NomadHer community for the first time at the NomadHer Seoul Festival 2022, and it was a truly unforgetful experience. I felt safe, heard, and celebrated for who I was. I think NomadHer is an extremely friendly, inspiring, and supportive community. I am delighted to be a part of it!

You can see more of her artwork here. IG: @chiiartt)

Travel connects the mind, Aleksandra Wesołowska, Poland

🔸 Why did you participate?

When I read the guidelines for the competition on NomadHer’s page, the image appeared in my head immediately. If I see the opportunity to challenge myself I try to grab it, because creating illustrations is my biggest passion. My creations combine themes of wanderlust, feminine beauty, yoga, and dreamy travel destinations. So I felt that it was a perfect challenge for me.

🔸What did you want to express through your work?

I want to show that every woman can travel anywhere. The world is beautiful, we should all have this opportunity to explore and feel safe.

🔸What is the meaning of solo travel for you based on your experience?

For me, personally, it’s the feeling of being independent and open to new experiences. Each trip enriches me with new knowledge about myself. I’ve learned that sometimes fear and limitations I put on myself are only in my head. I try to follow my instinct, I listen to my intuition. Sometimes you just need to get used to certain situations. When I lived in London for a while, at first I found it very uncomfortable to travel by subway by myself. After a few trips, I felt at ease.

🔸What do you think about the NomadHer community?

It’s absolutely amazing! I am very inspired by reading about other people’s travel experiences and seeing the places they have visited. I am glad that I can be a part of such a diverse community, which is connected by a common passion for travel.

2022 Seoul Female Globetrotter Festival Recap!

Each year, women from all over the world come together at the NomadHer Female Globetrotter Festival to celebrate solo travel. Here is the Seoul Female Festival Recap!

November 11, 2022

‍

She Can Travel Anywhere

This past October, the NomadHer Seoul Female Globetrotter Festival was held in Seoul, South Korea at the Google for Startups Campus in Seoul! With the theme ‘She Can Travel Anywhere’, female travelers, digital nomads, and entrepreneurs from all around the world gathered together to connect, talk, and enjoy activities— the Festival was a great success! Many of the Festival participants gave us feedback saying “It was a new event style that is not often seen in Korea” and that the Festival “was such a friendly global event, I would like to come again next time too”!

For those who did come, we will take a look back on the memories of the day, and for those who could not join this time, we will be sure to vividly share the details so can get a feeling of the amazing atmosphere of the Female Globetrotter Festival!

What is the NomadHer community and why do we hold the Female Globetrotter Festival?

Many people we met on the day of the Festival asked “what kind of community is NomadHer?” Thank you for all your questions and interest in NomadHer! NomadHer is a global startup created after interviewing 1,000 female travelers in Paris, France. We found that many women want to experience solo travel, but hesitate because of safety concerns and don’t know where to start.

NomadHer believes that with the support of a community of passionate women, this challenge of security can be solved! What if you could meet and travel with women you can trust, no matter where you travel in the world? What if you had a wealth of resources, guides, and inspiration to help you learn tips for traveling solo as a woman? This is the focus of the NomadHer: to create a community of women that help and guide each other in their love for traveling so that She Can Travel Anywhere!

IMG_3754.JPG

So, NomadHer considers it important to connect female travelers both online and offline! Today, 20,000 women from 178 countries have been finding travel companions within the app, traveling together through meetups/camps, and sharing their own travel tips. In that respect, the Festival can be said to be an offline version of the NomadHer App community.

Many parts of daily life have become virtual due to COVID-19, but we believe in-person connection is still so meaningful and important. With a start in Paris, France in 2019, NomadHer has held the Female Globetrotter Festival for female travelers around the world every summer/fall for the past four years!

What was special about the 2022 Seoul Female Globetrotter Festival?

This year, the NomadHer Festival was held in three global cities, Seoul, Paris, and San Francisco to celebrate the theme: She Can Travel Anywhere. Of course, it was carried out in a slightly different style in each country. Here we will share the highlights of the Seoul Female Globetrotter Festival!

💌 2 PM: Seoul Festival begins! Welcome, everyone!

The Seoul Festival was held at the Google Startup Campus located in Samseong Station. The event started at 2:00 PM, but many people came an hour earlier, so by the time the festival began, the venue was bustling and full of people. In particular, at the Seoul Festival, a welcome gift bag consisting of eco-friendly cosmetics and vegan products from 9 brands was given as a gift to everyone who pre-registered online. The NomadHer team selected and prepared this gift with sponsor companies whose missions align with the theme of the Festival providing products with an empowering and sustainable focus!

The event participants got a chance to tour the startup booths and take part in the surprise events held at each brand’s booth to receive prizes. Soon, people began to naturally gather in groups and start to chat, sharing stories, excitement, and contact to stay in touch. At all NomadHer events, including the Festivals, we provide a comfortable atmosphere to help everyone engage and leave with new friends! With the three keywords of this festival: travel, digital nomad, and start-up business, we were able to meet women full of energy.

💌 2:30 PM: Talk show with 3 speakers - digital nomad, traveler, and entrepreneurs in one place!

Soon, the eyes of all the NomadHer participants were shining and full of excitement! Meeting women who are bravely making their way in life is a wonderful reminder of the joys of travel and inspires us to chase our own dreams. During this year’s Seoul Festival talk shows, participants heard the stories of three successful women travelers, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads. Keep reading to hear what stories they shared!

Starting a new life as a yoga instructor through a trip to India,  Sunhee Maeng

“If you love to travel and end up visiting 35 countries alone, you begin to see that your trips become a kind of destiny. My trip to India to learn yoga changed my life. Now, I find peace in my mind and body while doing yoga, but the best thing is that I became much stronger internally so that I can independently decide the direction of my life”

CEO of educational start-up Youth Mango and Founder of Women's Base Camp, Honey Kim

“The desire to share what I love with more people has been the starting point for everything I do in business. I like outdoor activities, so I thought that I would spread my enjoyment of this to more women leading me to start a side project. That is why I opened the Women's Base Camp to encourage women to get out of their comfort zone. Before just letting go of the desire to share with those around you, think that maybe sharing what you love could become a seed for you to start something?”

Learn everything about A to Z about self-branding from a global digital marketer who has 3,000 consulting know-how, Kim-J

“Of course, nothing is easy at first. When I first sent out proposals to 100 companies to begin my business as a freelance digital nomad marketer, I was happy to even get 2 replies. Are you disappointed with the lack of responses in a similar situation? Keep your hopes up! Instead of getting discouraged, I thought that if this time I sent 100 proposals and received 2 calls, next time if I sent 200 messages, I might get 4 replies!

Finally, there was a company that I really wanted to do a project with so I made a proposal and called the manager saying “I wanted to do business with you” and showed what I had to offer. If you try until you make it, you will achieve the success you seek in the end. This is the key tip I always keep in mind that helped me create my way and succeed in this field.”

‍

💌 4 PM: Time to connect through networking!

After the panel talk show, NomadHer scheduled time for participants to connect with the three speakers, ask questions freely, and discuss the topics of the talk shows with each other. As soon as the panel talk shows were over, many people approached the speakers to ask questions that they were curious about and it also gave the speakers an opportunity to hear people's concerns and grow their businesses!

With the energy created by women who want to grow further and generously share what they know, the festival became interactive and full of conversation and inspiration. We received a lot of feedback from participants who wished there had been more networking time, so next year we will plan to create a variety of programs with more speakers and more conversations!

IMG_3802.JPG
IMG_7066 (1).JPG

💌5 PM: Aloha! Let’s do a hula dance!

When you join the NomadHer community app for the first time, the first word you will see in a welcome message is “Aloha!” which is a Hawaiian greeting that also holds meanings of love and peace. When you join the NomadHer community, make sure to check out the warm message in your inbox that starts with Aloha!

A hula dance class was held with hula dancer Hayati. Hayati recalls that after beginning to learn the hula, she began to have more appreciation for the little things in everyday life. Wrapping the colorful sarong on their waists and putting flowers on their heads, NomadHers enjoyed a moment to connect with themselves through Hawaiian rhythms.

‍

The official program of the festival ended with the hula class, but NomadHer prepared a dinner event for women who wanted the night to last a bit longer! Although everyone had just met at the Festival, the dinner event was full of endless conversation and laughter.

In the NomadHer community, you discover that all female travelers are strongly bounded beyond barriers of language, age, or nationality. While the 2022 Seoul Female Globetrotter Festival Festival is over, the inspiration, fun, and connection don’t end here. Various meetups and travel camps are held every week in the NomadHer community and can be found on the NomadHer App! With NomadHer, you can travel anywhere!
