The festival brought together seasoned solo travelers, adventurous explorers, and women eager to step into the world of solo travel, all united by a shared passion for freedom, adventure, and self-discovery. With an emphasis on connection and empowerment, the event created an inclusive space for like-minded women to exchange stories, forge new friendships, and find support in their shared journey of independence, courage, and self-expression.
Whether they were seeking inspiration for their next solo adventure or simply wanting to meet others who understood the unique joys and challenges of traveling alone, the festival became the perfect place to nurture the spirit of women empowering each other through travel.

The NomadHer Festival took place at Songjeong Gemstone, a beloved local café located on the breathtaking Songjeong Beach. With panoramic ocean views, this picturesque venue provided the perfect backdrop for an event centered around travel, empowerment, and sisterhood. From every corner of the café, attendees were greeted with the vast beauty of the Songjeong coastline—an inspiring reminder of the endless possibilities that await those who dare to follow their dreams.
‍

🌏 Day 1 : She Can Travel Anywhere

The festival opened with a warm and gracious welcome, greeting women from over 20 countries, including the U.S., Italy, France, Singapore, and more. Some of our guests were familiar faces who had attended previous NomadHer events, while others were experiencing the festival—and the vibrant city of Busan—for the first time.

‍

Regardless of whether they were returning or new to the community, the excitement and anticipation were palpable as we came together to celebrate the power of travel and the strength of women from around the world.

🎁 Welcome Gifts: A Celebration of Women Empowerment

As attendees arrived, they were presented with a carefully curated welcome gift bag designed to enhance their festival experience. Inside each bag was an eco-friendly tote featuring the exclusive “She Can Travel Busan” design, created specifically for this edition of the festival.

‍

The bags also contained luxury beauty products from L'Oréal Group, Giorgio Armani lipstick, and other delightful surprises—thoughtfully selected to celebrate and empower women while encouraging them to travel in style.

These gifts were a token of appreciation for the powerful women who gathered to share their journeys and create lasting connections.

🌸 I. Women’s Empowerment Panel Talk Show : Inspiring Voices

The panel talk show at the NomadHer Festival was a powerful gathering that not only celebrated women’s empowerment but also highlighted the importance of allyship in advancing gender equality. One of the most impactful moments of the festival came from a thought-provoking discussion moderated by Kim Hyo-jung, CEO of NomadHer. The panel explored how travel—especially solo travel—can catalyze personal growth and serve as a tool for breaking boundaries, both personally and professionally. It was a celebration of women who dare to step out of their comfort zones, whether traveling alone or as part of a group, to create their own paths and redefine what’s possible for themselves.

This year’s panel was particularly meaningful, featuring a diverse lineup of speakers. Among them was Raphael Rashid, a male freelance journalist based in South Korea, who passionately advocated for women’s empowerment. Rashid's presence on the panel underscored the important role that men can play in supporting gender equality.

His advocacy for allyship was a key takeaway from the discussion, reminding the audience that empowering women is a collective effort that requires support from all corners of society.

The esteemed panel also included Kim Hyun-jung, Head of the Seoul Global Startup Center; Tess, founder of Ufulu Swim; and Laura McLuckie, founder of WellMi, a wellness content and consulting agency. Each speaker shared their personal journey, illustrating how travel, particularly solo travel, had shaped their careers and empowered them to break through barriers. Their stories were not just about adventure but about how traveling solo—often outside their comfort zones—helped them build resilience, confidence, and success.

During the discussion, Laura McLuckie shared a particularly moving anecdote about her journey as a woman entrepreneur in South Korea. Quoted by The Korea Times, McLuckie reflected on the challenges she faced when launching her business:

"I was told, ‘You can’t do this. You’re a foreigner, a woman, a mother. You can’t make it happen.’ But I didn’t let that stop me. I took it one step at a time, pushing forward, and here I am. I think, as women, we can have it all."

Her words resonated deeply with everyone in the room, embodying the core message of the panel: women have the power to redefine their futures, no matter the barriers they face. McLuckie’s journey as a solo traveler and entrepreneur is a testament to the strength and determination that arises when women refuse to be limited by societal expectations. It was a powerful reminder that the path to success is often paved with challenges, but those challenges are what make the victory even sweeter.

‍

The panel discussions were rich with insight, as the speakers shared their perspectives on how travel can be a transformative tool for developing resilience and confidence. Kim Hyun-jung emphasized the importance of embracing setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow, while Tess shared how her entrepreneurial journey was shaped by her travels. Tess recounted how stepping into the unknown during solo trips helped her build the courage and confidence needed to launch her swimwear brand, Ufulu Swim. Each speaker encouraged the audience to trust in their own abilities and to see travel—not just as a way to see the world—but as a way to explore and redefine one’s own limits.

For women considering solo travel, the speakers highlighted the profound impact it can have on self-discovery and empowerment. They spoke about how traveling alone challenges you to trust yourself, embrace uncertainty, and navigate the world on your own terms. Solo travel, they explained, can be an incredibly empowering experience, allowing women to step into their power, take ownership of their decisions, and find strength in independence.

The messages shared during this session were both uplifting and motivational. The pane speakers encouraged every woman in the audience to believe in their inherent strength and to embrace the transformative power of travel. It was a call to action for women to take control of their lives and careers, to trust in their inner strength, and to use travel—not just as a form of escape but as a means of empowerment and growth.

‍

II. 🫶 Networking & Connection: Building Community

Following the talk show, the festival turned its focus to fostering connections among participants. Our team facilitated a vibrant networking session designed to create an open and supportive space for women to share experiences and forge new friendships.

A lively bingo game served as a fun icebreaker, allowing attendees to mingle and discover shared interests.

The first ten winners of the bingo game were awarded beautifully crafted bags, sponsored by Harlie K, a brand that champions women, particularly those who retire.

This was a powerful reminder of the festival’s commitment to empowering women at all stages of their journey, and it provided a meaningful way to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women from all walks of life.

As the room filled with conversation and laughter, it was clear that the festival was more than just an event—it was a space for real connections to take root. The bonds formed here would last long beyond the festival, and attendees left the session with a renewed sense of motivation and support for the paths they would pursue.

III. 🌟 Evening Live Concert : A Night of Sisterhood

The day culminated in a breathtaking evening live concert, set against the stunning backdrop of Songjeong Beach. The concert featured the soulful voice of Lim Jung-Hee, a celebrated South Korean artist whose powerful songs deeply resonated with the festival's themes of strength, resilience, and empowerment.

With a performance that included hits like “Golden Lady” and “Not4$ale”, Lim’s music celebrated the strength of women, uniting the audience in a shared moment of collective empowerment.

In a heartfelt moment, Lim shared that she had carefully curated the song list to inspire and uplift the NomadHer community, intentionally choosing tracks that would empower every woman in the room. Her performance not only showcased her immense talent but also underscored the festival’s spirit of solidarity and sisterhood. The evening was an unforgettable celebration of music, strength, and the incredible power of women coming together.

Jazz pianist Cho Soo-im also graced the stage with a special piece she composed for the festival, inspired by the confident, independent women of NomadHer. Her music captured the festival’s spirit of solidarity and empowerment, reminding the audience of the power of art and community to uplift women everywhere.

🌌 A Day of Empowerment, Connection, and Shared Travel Stories

The first day of the NomadHer Festival was a powerful testament to the strength that emerges when women come together, united by a shared passion for adventure and mutual support. Through thought-provoking panel discussions, vibrant networking sessions, and moving live performances, attendees experienced a collective journey of empowerment, inspiration, and sisterhood. The festival created a unique space where women could learn from one another, uplift each other, and, most importantly, recognize the incredible strength within themselves.

‍

She Can Travel Busan wasn’t just a celebration of travel—it was a call to action. It reminded us that no matter where we are in the world or where our individual journeys may take us, we are all capable of achieving our dreams. It was a celebration of the transformative power of travel and the indomitable spirit of women who are bold enough to embrace it.

Together, we are unstoppable. Together, we can go anywhere. Yes, she can travel anywhere.

Answering your most asked questions about NomadHer!

The NomadHer team receives emails and messages from our members every day, so we wanted to put together a blog post to serve as a guide to your most asked questions.

NomadHer, FAQ, app, travel camps, membership, questions

What is NomadHer?

Are you looking for a like-minded community of female travellers? Have you been desperate to travel the world but don’t know where to start and need inspiration? NomadHer is an app dedicated to offering women a safe platform to connect with other female travellers, share their tips and experiences and organise events around the world. We at Nomadher know how intimidating solo travel can be but we equally know what a worthwhile and rewarding experience it is. This is what inspired our CEO Hyojeong Kim to found this company, to empower women to go out into the world knowing there is a network of women in one app there to offer them advice, support and friendship. If you would like to learn more about Hyo please follow this link to our website.

This blog post will be an introduction to the NomadHer ethos and will serve as a guide to understanding how the app works and how you as an ambitious female traveller can get the most out of the app. This article will also address the most common questions asked on our recent Instagram story. Please do not hesitate to contact the NomadHer team via email or Instagram with other questions and suggestions you may have.

‍

Is there an app to find other solo female travellers?

The NomadHer app is designed to allow its community members to enter a location anywhere in the world, along with the dates they intend to be there and be presented with a list of women whom they can connect with while they’re there. The total freedom to speak and meet new people is undeniably one of the greatest benefits of solo travel and with the NomadHer app it is made even easier. The app also allows you to see what meet-up events are being organised across the globe; so whether you are coincidentally in a city where one of our events is taking place or you’ve specifically travelled to be there for it, meet-ups are joyous and judgement free spaces that hope to inspire the building of connections.

‍

Why is it important for female travellers to have an app like NomadHer dedicated to supporting their travel aspirations?

So many of the messages NomadHer receives are from female travellers regarding concerns for their safety when travelling, particularly when they’re doing so alone. We at NomadHer believe that travelling is an invaluable and formative experience and by creating an app that provides a sense of community to women all over the world, we hope to alleviate some of the concerns that may be holding someone back from following their dreams of travel. Travelling has the potential to allow us to understand ourselves more deeply and meet people from around the world who can help shape us. A vast majority of the women we speak with at NomadHer say that they didn’t realise how resilient they could be until they found themselves in remote parts of the world, doing things they once couldn’t have believed they were capable of doing. This app allows women to share their stories of how travel has enriched their lives, whether it be through people they’ve met or moments they’ve experienced.

‍

How does the NomadHer app work?

As previously mentioned, the NomadHer app is designed to allow female travellers to have a sense of community and offer a safe space to make friends no matter where you are in the world. There are three main ways in which you can meet other female travellers through the app:

‍

1. NomadHer user-organised events, which are shared in the ‘Posts’ section of the app

‍

Image 1

‍

When you open the app you will find yourself in the ‘Lounge’ section of the app, under the ‘Posts’ tab; here you will see a brief glimpse of our upcoming NomadHer organised events. Below this, you will see posts from our members which may be suggestions of independently organised group activities that could take place anywhere in the world or simply a recent photo someone has taken on their travels, as seen above in Image 1. Our members may also be seeking travel tips for specific countries and locations or even just sharing a wholesome story of a friend they made through the app. You can comment on these posts or message the post’s creator directly if you’d like to arrange to meet up with them.

‍

2. Our NomadHer arranged meetup events and festivals

What is a meetup event? A meetup is an event organised by NomadHer whereby we organise activities, which vary in type, to offer female travellers the opportunity to have a cultural experience while making friends in a safe and reliable environment. For example, Seoul is known for its numerous hiking spots, but don’t want to go alone? Look at NomadHer’s ‘Meetups’ section, shown in Image 2 below, and you’ll see regular opportunities to join like-minded, adventurous women on a hike, and if hiking isn’t your thing, not to worry, we host a range of events and we’re always open to new ideas.

‍

Image 2

‍

Nervous to turn up to a meetup event alone? Why not message one of the other women you can see has said she will also be attending and ask if she’d like to meet up beforehand? While we pride ourselves on being a welcoming group of curious women, we can appreciate that social anxiety can sometimes be a deterrent for some. Remember, the purpose of this app and these groups is to allow female travellers to connect, and if they have found the app and are choosing to attend one of our events then you know you’ll already have something in common with them!

‍

3. The travel buddy feature

Looking to find other female travellers outside of meetup events? The NomadHer app allows you to create a profile whereby you can share the location and dates of you’re trip which allows fellow travellers to find your profile should you be overlapping at a certain place and date using the travel buddy feature.

‍

Image 3

‍

To add your travel plans to the NomadHer app you simply press the green circle with a plus symbol, which is at the bottom of the app screen, and select the option to ‘Create a Travel Buddy Announcement’ which will then allow you to fill in your travel details, as shown above in Image 3.

You can also be the one to search for other travellers using this feature of the app. Simply enter your travel plans into the ‘Find Travel Buddies’ section as shown below in Image 4.

Please follow this link to an Instagram post where our CEO and Founder, Hyo, explains how to use this feature.

Image 4

Why join NomadHer and what makes the NomadHer app special?

NomadHer’s CEO and founder used her own travel experience to create this app based on the realities of travelling as a woman that she experienced first-hand. As a result, NomadHer is a safe and reliable platform which understands what the priorities are for the vast majority of female solo travellers. The travel guides and blog posts found on the app are made by women, for women. They take into account the increased vulnerability that comes with being a solo female traveller while sharing tips and tricks that will allow you to explore the world without feeling governed by fear. We pride ourselves on having a diverse range of contributors to our posts, ensuring that we are providing travel insights from women of a range of backgrounds.

With NomadHer, even though you may have embarked on your great adventure alone, it doesn't mean you’ll stay that way.

‍

Is NomadHer free to join?

It is entirely free to download the NomadHer app and to create an account. It is also free to connect with the other NomadHers using the travel buddy feature of the app. If you are interested in attending one of our meetup events then you have the option to register for the experience, the cost of which will vary depending on the activity being organised. NomadHer understand that not all travellers have access to the same financial means and therefore we offer a range of meetup activities to ensure that there are opportunities for all.

‍

Who can join NomadHer?

NomadHer prides itself on being an inclusive, diverse and non-judgmental space. Women of all ages are welcome to register to be NomadHers and to attend our events should they wish to. NomadHer is an app that encourages and inspires travel amongst all women, regardless of sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion and ability. It is vital to NomadHer that our members feel safe within our community and therefore we invite any women who may have any concerns about joining NomadHer to reach out to us.

‍

How to download the NomadHer app?

To sign up to the NomadHer app you first must go to the app store on your phone and download the NomadHer app. There is also a link at the end of this blog post that works for both IOS and Android phones.

‍

How to sign up to NomadHer?

Simply download the app, as detailed above, and create an account and wait patiently for your account to be verified by a member of the NomadHer team. Once your account has been approved you can begin to familiarise yourself with the different features and functions of the app. We encourage all our NomadHers to include as much detail about themselves as their travel aspirations as they feel comfortable with as it will allow other travellers on the app to find and connect with them more easily.

‍

How does the NomadHer app ensure the safety of its members?

We are committed to ensuring the safety of our community and as such, each member is fully verified as part of the registration requirement. We ask our new members to upload a selfie and a photo of their ID which is then reviewed by a member of the NomadHer team.

‍

How do we verify your identification when you join the NomadHer app?

Upon submitting a clear and legible photo of your identification along with a selfie, a female member of the NomadHer team will verify your account and you will receive a text informing you when this process is complete so you can begin to meet other solo female travellers.

‍

Why do we need to verify your identification when registering at NomadHer?

NomadHer is a community that inspires women to travel, whether it be solo or with friends, and we know that one of the main deterrents for female travellers is a sense of vulnerability. Therefore, we ask all of our members to submit a selfie and photo of their identification so that the women in the NomadHer community can feel confident and assured when arranging to meet with other NomadHers.

‍

What type of IDs does NomadHer accept as part of the verification process?

NomadHer accepts identifications such as passports, which include your first name, last name and gender, all of which should be written in English.

‍

How long does it take to have my account verified?

The verification process when signing up to NomadHer takes around 24 hours, however, the time for us to verify a new member’s account may take longer if submitted over the weekend.

‍

What does NomadHer do with your data?

Directly after reviewing your selfie and passport image, the NomadHer team will delete both photos.

‍

What happens if I'm rejected?

There are 3 reasons why we wouldn't verify your identity: ‍

  • You didn’t upload a correct ID
  • Your ID didn't include: first name, last name, gender and headshot
  • Your selfie was blurry ‍

In this case, we send you an email and a notification asking you to re-upload your ID and a clear selfie to join our community.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any other questions you may have about our verification process.

‍

Once I've created my NomadHer account can I change the name on my profile?

Currently, we do not allow users to modify their names on their profiles. Instead, we kindly request that users indicate in their profile bio the name by which they wish to be addressed. The reason for this policy is that in the past, we permitted certain users to change their names, which led to an issue when two users met and discovered that their actual names did not match the names displayed on their profiles. For instance, if someone’s real name is Cecile, but they had listed Alessandra on their profile, it resulted in trust issues from the perspective of other users. To ensure transparency and fairness for all our users, we have decided not to change user names from our end. Instead, we encourage users to “clarify” the name they prefer to be called by in their profile bios. We recognise that not everyone is feeling comfortable showing their last name, and we have updated our app to show only the first name.

‍

Are there meet-up events outside of South Korea?

One of the most frequent questions we are receiving at the moment is regarding the locations of our meet-ups. While it is our ambition to eventually host a range of events all around the world, NomadHer is focussing its attention on South Korea for the coming months. This being said we are thrilled to be working towards an event that will be held in Paris later on this year. Additionally, our events and meet-ups in South Korea are not merely Seoul-based, with events and camps being held in places in Busan and Jeju.

As previously mentioned, while there may not yet be NomadHer organised events in your country or city, we welcome all of our members to reach out to one another whether it be through the travel buddy feature of the app or through simply posting a proposed plan on the ‘Posts’ section of the app.

‍

How can I join the NomadHer team? Are there any current vacancies?

Another one of the most common questions we receive is about career opportunities with NomadHer. We are always thrilled to see how many NomadHers are passionate about the work we do and want to get involved and we are so grateful to all of those who take the time to reach out to us with their CVs. We update our website with any vacancies we have and we will normally also share our exciting work opportunities on our Instagram. We also accept spontaneous applications, though due to the large volume of emails we receive, we may take a few days to get back to you.

“With each discovery of a new aspect of myself during solo travel, my confidence and self-belief have steadily grown. Solo travel expands my world and fortifies me even further.”

🎉 Afternoon Special 2 | Confidence Blooming in Warm Support

The Power of Connection, Global Networking Session

Is it okay to attend the festival alone? 🙋‍♀️ Can I network in English with my international friends?

NomadHer operates a travel community app that facilitates connections for female travelers, empowering them to find companions for their adventures, regardless of when or where they wish to go. Among the attendees, there were women who relish solo travel experiences and others who aspire to embark on such journeys someday. Feel free to download the NomadHer app for free!

The festival grounds were pulsating with the enthusiasm of women who share a passion for travel. It was a gathering of individuals eager to live life on their own terms, whether in travel, career advancement, or embracing the digital nomad lifestyle. With such common interests and aspirations, conversations sparked effortlessly and continued joyfully.

The best part of NomadHer networking sessions lies in the genuine warmth and eagerness to connect with each other's unique worlds!

To foster more meaningful networking interactions, the NomadHer team believes in uncovering commonalities before diving into conversations. At the festival, attendees were presented with two thought-provoking questions:

  1. What destination left such a lasting impression on you that it reignited your passion for life?
  2. If you could venture anywhere at any time, what dream destination would you choose?

These questions served as catalysts, prompting discussions and allowing participants to ponder their responses with newfound acquaintances at the name card booth. By proudly wearing name tags adorned with statements like "I'm someone who dreams of...", attendees effortlessly initiated conversations, sharing their aspirations and forging connections. Beyond mere networking, they immersed themselves in riveting talks, danced to the beat of music, and cultivated experiences reminiscent of the excitement of meeting kindred spirits in a new travel destination.
‍

With eyes gleaming with curiosity and hearts brimming with passion, NomadHers enthusiastically conversed in Korean, English, and sometimes even French! It was a significant moment for them to engage in vibrant dialogues in languages spanning the globe.

In addition, NomadHer volunteers were strategically placed throughout the festival venues to eliminate any barriers for those who came alone or felt hesitant about speaking English. Their presence ensured that everyone could freely share and experience each other's worlds without inhibition.

Regardless of age, language, culture, or profession, the air was filled with curiosity and warm encouragement, united by the common bond of being NomadHers.

💃 Afternoon Special 3 | Infuse Energy into Your Every Step

Shuffle Dance Class

The NomadHer Festival unfolded throughout the day, from morning till evening, offering a diverse range of activities. And what's a festival without lively music? We all had a blast, dancing to the infectious beats and feeling the freedom together on stage.

During the shuffle dance class, we were led by the energetic Senior Somuz, who demonstrated that age is merely a number. With unwavering curiosity and a zest for life, they encouraged us to embrace challenges and keep exploring the world.

As Somuz, leader of the Seoul Shuffle Dance Community, camper extraordinaire, and content creator, stepped onto the stage, all eyes gravitated toward her. Her authentic and fearless enjoyment of the performance resonated with the audience, prompting several to join her onstage, one after another.

At this moment, it was as if everyone had reverted to the innocence of childhood, embracing the joy of the stage wholeheartedly. Witnessing her unapologetic self-expression prompted reflection: when was the last time you embraced your true self without concern for others' perceptions?

🎁Morning & Afternoon Highlights | Lucky Draw

With unwavering enthusiasm, we curated talks, organized networking sessions, facilitated yoga and shuffle dance classes, and orchestrated lucky draws, all with the heartfelt goal of supporting the fresh aspirations of fellow NomadHers embarking on their journeys this year.

Recap of the Seoul Female Globetrotter Festival 2023: She Can Travel Anywhere

Every year, women globally unite at the NomadHer Festival, empowering solo travel. Explore the highlights of the Seoul Female Globetrotter Festival 2023!

November 13, 2023
Seoul, Korea, Globetrotter Festival, 2023, event recap, She Can Travel

Last October, NomadHer hosted an incredible gathering with over 120 members at the Female Globetrotter Festival 2023 [Seoul Edition], held at the Seoul Tourism Organization in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Building on the success of the previous year, this edition embraced the theme "She Can Travel Anywhere," aligning with NomadHer's mission to empower women through solo travel. With over 120 Korean and international female travelers, digital nomads, and travel creators in attendance, the event facilitated networking, engaging activities, and a shared sense of empowerment — echoing the sentiment "We can do it together!" The festival concluded triumphantly, leaving behind new friendships and captivating stories.

[Talk Show & Networking] Empowering Narratives: Inspiring Women's Incredible Stories on the Journey to Discover Answers

The festival featured an impressive lineup of nine speakers, including digital nomads, travel creators, world travelers, and female leaders. Each speaker shared incredible stories and insights, providing a global perspective that the 1 hour and 40 minutes proved insufficient to absorb fully.

✔Antje courageously stepped away from the comfortable life of a German office worker, overcame language and cultural barriers, and successfully transitioned into a creator specializing in Korean travel.

✔Shazia, a Muslim woman born and raised in Pakistan, not only an AI researcher but also an avid traveler, imparted valuable lessons on seeking opportunities without giving up.

✔Gaëlle from Switzerland generously shared her experience on sustaining a lifestyle as a digital nomad, seamlessly balancing work and travel.

✔Sangye, a traveler and AI Designer, provided insightful reflections based on her daunting solo overseas experiences.

✔"Yesterday I was a car traveler, today I was a shuffle dancer, and tomorrow I'll be a senior model!" Somuz, a professional challenger in his 60s, emphasized the importance of curiosity about the world for enjoying the present, not just waiting for tomorrow.

✔Jihye, the CEO of GreenWave, an environmental startup, as well as an active sports influencer and announcer, shared insights from her enlightening trip to Thailand.

✔"My dreams are as big as I picture them!" Sunny boldly embraced the challenge of pursuing her dreams, refusing to settle for less.

Many were curious about the process behind selecting and bringing together such a dynamic group, sparking conversations and reflections on the impressive coordination and effort that went into curating an event with speakers who offered unique perspectives and inspiring stories.

‍
Here are some insightful words from our speakers at the Talkshow:

"Start with a rough plan and take that first step. Even if it's a small step, it's crucial to showcase your results to the world. This helps you gauge if you're heading in the right direction and if you genuinely enjoy what you're doing."
"Viewing the world with pure curiosity can reshape your life. Shifting your mindset from what you have to do to what you want to do is transformative. Rather than saying, “I’m too old for this,” you'll find yourself thinking, “I can still do it!” This mindset drives me to continually seek new challenges, moving beyond being just a shuffle dancer, a senior model, or a car traveler."
"Being a digital nomad is just one approach to life. Ultimately, it's about exploring answers to questions about oneself. The key is to reflect on your strengths and consider how you can contribute to others. Transforming your dream into reality involves addressing every small question within yourself."

After the talk show, it transitioned into a networking session—a perfect opportunity to engage with the nine speakers, ask questions, and connect with fellow participants. Immediately after the talks concluded, a vibrant atmosphere emerged as attendees gathered around each speaker to delve into the discussions, share their thoughts, and build deeper connections.

The enthusiasm of the women eager to generously share their knowledge added a dynamic and heated ambiance to the festival. All participants fully enjoyed the supportive atmosphere that permeated the event. We received valuable feedback expressing a desire for more networking time, and we're excited to incorporate diverse programs with additional speakers and participants next year!

[Activity Classes] Tahitian Dance Class and K-POP Taekwondo Class: Elevating the Heat!

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art.

The NomadHer Festival took place at the Seoul Tourism Organization, the heart of tourism in Seoul. An enjoyable class brought together K-POP, representing Korean culture, and Taekwondo. Foreign travelers from various countries, including France, the United States, and more, participated in the K-POP Taekwondo class with King's Lady, a Korean female Taekwondo performance group. They immersed themselves in Taekwondo through a combination of visual, auditory, and physical learning, practicing moves while enjoying lively K-pop music together.

In addition, a unique Tahitian dance class was held in collaboration with Tahiti Tourisme and led by Jina, who fell in love with the charm of Tahitian dance while traveling around the world. She became a Tahitian dancer and the representative of the Otahiti Group. As participants followed the dance, with its beautiful movements reminiscent of palm trees and the blue sea, they felt like they were on a trip to Tahiti. Is there any freer time than moving your body to the rhythm of Tahitian music?

Their articles, curated over the past months, are true gems that enrich the tapestry of knowledge and inspiration for fellow solo women travelers.

Meet Gaelle, a digital nomad who adores working and traveling in Switzerland.

Meet Gaëlle Andriamahatahitry, a dedicated article contributor for NomadHer, hailing from the picturesque land of Switzerland. As a professional social media freelancer, Gaëlle's heart beats to the rhythm of the creative realm. Her passions include capturing captivating moments through the lens of her camera, weaving visual tales through video editing, and crafting imaginative designs.

Fueling her wanderlust from an early age, Gaëlle embarked on her adventures when she was just a young traveler. However, it was a transformative experience at the age of 16, during a language exchange to Ireland, that ignited her insatiable love for exploration. Since then, solo travel has become her canvas for meeting kindred spirits worldwide, immersing herself in diverse cultures, and embracing the beauty of new experiences.

Could you introduce yourself?

My name is Gaëlle and I'm a freelance social media strategist and content creator. I'm a travel enthusiast with a passion for exploring new places and cultures. I love solo-traveling and share all my travels through my social media (@thesweetlifeofgaelle) where I hope to inspire women to explore the world solo! When I am not traveling, you can find me trying new food, binge-watching tv-shows or drawing.

Is there a solo trip that has inspired you?

One of the solo trips that deeply inspired me was my summer journey to Portugal in 2022, which I embarked on after a challenging period. During this time, I came to the realization that I needed to break free from waiting for others and overcome any fear of venturing out on my own. I devoted time to myself and pursued activities that had long been aspirations.

My solo adventure in Portugal served as a powerful reminder of my ability to navigate unfamiliar territory, communicate in a foreign city, and connect with new people, all on my own. Exploring a country that had been on my bucket list for ages brought immense joy and fulfillment. It was during this transformative journey that I discovered my passion for encouraging women to embrace solo travel, a revelation that has since shaped my mission to inspire others.

Which country would you recommend for female travelers going solo?

I have a few destinations in mind. In Europe, I suggest Lisbon and Budapest. These are two budget-friendly cities that provide a secure setting and various activities, no matter your travel style. In Asia, I'd recommend Malaysia or Thailand. They are fantastic choices for beginning a solo journey in Southeast Asia. The locals are friendly and ever-willing to assist. Moreover, you'll encounter a wonderful community of fellow solo travelers, making it difficult to feel alone!

Do you have any tips for women who are going on their first solo trip?

My top tips for a first solo trip are:

  • Always tell a family member and/or friend about your itinerary.
  • Never tell people you don't know that you're traveling solo.
  • Research the country you're visiting to learn about the culture before you travel.
  • Plan your trip, but don't over-plan to leave room for adventure, as you may meet new people and your itinerary will change.
  • Don't arrive late at night at a new destination.
  • Buy a SIM card to avoid phone charges
  • There will be times when you may be on your own, so don't be afraid and take this opportunity to spend some time with yourself.

What was the most exciting aspect of being part of this program?

The most exciting thing about this program was being able to share my passion for traveling to a bigger community and also challenge myself to do something different. I love the fact that NomadHer is a platform that lets you express yourself freely! I also got to meet other female travelers who are part of the NomadHer community.

What message do you have for upcoming article contributors?

The NomadHer community is awesome! Today, there are an increasing number of women who take the leap into solo travel. I just want to say that one experience can inspire or influence someone. I hope future article contributors share their beautiful adventures and advice with us!

Meet Katie in Germany: Exploring Europe and Embracing Wanderlust

Katie Bathgate, a valued NomadHer article contributor, is currently immersing herself in Germany as she pursues her master's degree. Embracing life in Europe, she finds that travel is a breeze, further igniting her insatiable wanderlust. Beyond her academic endeavors, Katie's free moments are dedicated to envisioning her upcoming adventures, getting lost in captivating books, conjuring up delectable creations in the kitchen, and delving into the world of languages. With enthusiasm, she's eagerly looking forward to connecting with fellow female solo travelers and contributing her unique insights.

Would you mind introducing yourself?

Hi! My name is Katie. I’m originally from the US, but now I live in Germany. When I’m not working or studying, I like to explore the world by traipsing the streets of unfamiliar cities and reading stories of people and cultures in faraway places.

Which solo trip has inspired you so far?

I believe that every solo trip has left me with a sense of inspiration in its own unique way. Each city and country I explore offers a fresh perspective on life and the global landscape. These experiences fuel my imagination and keep me excited about my future journeys.

While I've been fortunate to visit numerous breathtaking destinations, my solo trip to Portugal holds a special place in my heart. Portugal exudes an irresistible charm, blending vibrant culture, rich history, and stunning landscapes within its compact borders. Strolling through the historic streets of its cities, inhaling the ocean breeze on its sandy shores, and delving into undiscovered facets of the country opened my eyes to the profound beauty that exists in our world. This journey not only deepened my understanding of Portugal but also reminded me of the privilege it is to explore and embrace the diverse wonders our planet has to offer.

Which country would you recommend for female travelers?

As someone who has exclusively embarked on solo trips within Europe, my recommendations are centered around European countries. In this context, I would highly suggest considering The Netherlands, Portugal, or Belgium for those venturing into solo travel for the first time.

Foremost, these nations prioritize safety, providing a reassuring environment for solo explorers. Additionally, their efficient and affordable public transportation systems facilitate seamless city-to-city and intra-country travel. The prevalence of English as a well-spoken language in these destinations simplifies communication for international visitors.

Lastly, these countries boast a plethora of captivating cities to discover, all conveniently located due to their relatively compact size. So, for a memorable and accessible introduction to solo travel, these European gems present fantastic options.

Could you give some advice for female travelers starting their first solo trip?

If you have never gone on a solo trip before, it’s okay to start small. If you want to plan a trip to another country or continent, go for it! But you can also plan a day trip somewhere close to home to help you get out of your comfort zone and get the feel for traveling alone before diving into solo travel on a greater scale.

My best friend and I traveled a lot in the past, and whenever we encountered the good, the bad, the wild, or the unexpected, we always said “It’s all part of the experience!” No matter how ironic it might have been in the moment, the saying is something I remind myself of when I travel. Traveling is full of beautiful, joyous moments and incredible experiences, but mishaps are unavoidable along the way. Instead of feeling down about it, just remember it’s all part of the experience and it doesn’t have to define you or your trip!

What aspect of being a part of this program excites you the most?

The most exciting thing about joining this program, for me, has been getting to explore a new creative medium with a team of wonderful ladies offering so much guidance and support!

The NomadHer community is full of so many wonderful women, and it’s incredible getting to uplift and be uplifted by other women as we all share our experiences and love of traveling. The women in this community are bold, adventurous, and simply incredible people, and it’s been a wonderful experience getting to interact with so many people around the globe!

Writing an article with the NomadHer team and other contributors heightens the connection we all develop using this app. By writing these articles, we explore topics that many of us have experienced as travelers and find a new way to connect as female solo travelers. Participating in the writing program is most definitely a rewarding experience for both the writers and readers!

Hello, I'm Aurélie! I'm from France, and I've been living in Geoje, South Korea, for almost 2 years now. I lived and worked in a place called San Sebastian for a whole year, and it was a really special experience that taught me a lot.

I would highly recommend considering South Korea for your first trip. It's an excellent choice due to its well-organized infrastructure and high level of safety for travelers. Planning your itinerary here is relatively straightforward, and the country offers a wide range of experiences to suit various interests.

When you visit South Korea, my advice is to embrace the journey with confidence. Trust that your travel plans will fall into place smoothly, and take full advantage of each and every moment. This destination offers a harmonious blend of traditional and modern attractions, vibrant cultural experiences, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes it an ideal starting point for your travel adventures.

Meet Maron from the Netherlands: Embracing the Wonders of Nature at Every Moment

Maron Theunis, a proud article contributor of the NomadHer community and a passionate female traveler hailing from the Netherlands. With a love for writing, photography, and hiking, Maron decided to step out of her comfort zone, embarking on her first solo adventure in Norway. Her journey didn't stop there; she has since explored the vibrant streets of Copenhagen and the beautiful landscapes of Germany. Currently, her dream destination is the enchanting Sri Lanka.

Can You Tell Us About Yourself?

My name is Maron, and I'm a 21-year-old education student from the Netherlands. I like to spend my free time writing (travel) blogs and stories, taking pictures, or creating all sorts of photo and video content. In addition to these hobbies, whenever I get the chance, I explore new places within and outside of the Netherlands. Right now, a solo trip to Nepal is the first thing I would like to cross off my bucket list.

‍

What Solo Journey Ignited Your Inspiration?

The first trip that comes to mind is my solo travel to Norway, around this time last year. I had just faced some new challenges in my life, which made me feel stuck in the place where I lived. For this reason, I couldn't wait to trade my usual environment for a new one, which turned out to be in the middle of the Norwegian forests. It was the first trip I embarked on without other people, and doing so made me realize that I am capable of so much more than I used to think. Now, every time I doubt myself, I think back to this adventure to remind myself of my potential.

What Destination Would You Suggest for a First Solo Adventure?

For many people, embarking on their first solo trip feels like a huge step. And in a lot of ways it is because you can no longer rely on someone else to map out your route, ask strangers for the best way to get to your hostel, or bring your tickets along. It is because of this that I would advise you to travel to a country where most people speak English so you are able to communicate with locals and other travelers in case of an emergency. A great option would be northern European countries such as Norway, Sweden, or Copenhagen. Most people, at least in the cities, are able to speak English there; their crime rates are fairly low, and in my opinion, these countries are very safe.

What Tips Can You Share for Those Beginning Their First Solo Journey?

  1. Make and bring a copy of all your important paperwork, such as your passport or driver's license. That way, in case you lose any of these items, at least you'll have a copy of them which might speed up procedures to get a new one.
  2. Send a live location to a family member or friend and ask them to check on you whenever you're feeling a little nervous. If something were to happen, they are able to track your location and inform the police.
  3. Buy a local SIM or e-SIM because it will save you a lot of money, and you will still be able to use your mobile data when there's no WiFi. I have traveled to countries where I didn't have this option and relied on WiFi solely, which I didn't really feel safe with.
  4. Leave enough room for spontaneity! You will meet people on your trip with whom you'd like to spend a few more days, and there will be destinations that you like better than others, so leave some room in your itinerary to change plans last minute.

What Excites You the Most About Becoming a Part of This Program?

Writing articles for the NomadHer article contributor program has been my first time writing articles for a different website than my own, so it was a great opportunity to explore different writing styles and forms. Because of the program, I have continued writing for other travel websites and blogs. In addition to this, the article contributor program has been a means for me to meet new people from the NomadHer community, who I still speak to almost once every week.

What Do You Think of the NomadHer Community?

I can't stress enough how valuable this community has been for me, offering me great opportunities to meet new people from all over the world and develop myself in terms of my career. Everyone is super helpful and going through the same struggles that accompany solo travel, so NomadHer is a space where you can ask all your questions and share all your doubts without being judged. I hope to stay an active member over the coming months and am looking forward to seeing what else this community has to offer for me.

If there's anything I've learned since joining this community, it is that you should always go for the opportunity when it arises.

What Is the NomadHer Community?

We often hear questions like, 'Isn't it dangerous for women to travel alone?' as solo female travelers. But many of us keep traveling alone because it helps us learn more about ourselves. Traveling alone shows us what we can do and what might be a bit hard. It teaches us that we can manage things by ourselves, from the beginning to the end. When we travel alone, local people often talk to us, and we make new friends who give us great ideas. It gives us time to think about who we are. Every time we start a new solo adventure, we feel more confident and brave. This is the special power of traveling alone!

And that's why NomadHer was created. Our main goal is to help those of us who might feel a little worried about traveling alone. NomadHer is here to show that many women all around the world are discovering and enjoying different cultures and places. It's about building a community that supports and encourages each other to explore the world in our own way. Join us on this journey of empowerment and self-discovery at NomadHer!

Q&A

Q. I'm interested in this program, but I don't know how to write a good article.

Writing a good article is all about considering your audience, which is quite different from writing a diary. Nowadays, NomadHer members are looking for articles that focus on specific travel information based on the city while incorporating the writer's inspiration and viewpoint. You can start by exploring the city where you live. For example, you could write about "How To Travel The City On a Budget” or highlight "10 Unique Concept Cafes in My City" if you're a fan of visiting cafes. Believe that everything you've experienced so far can be valuable content!

Q. There are 2 online networking meetings scheduled during this 2-month program from July to August. Are these sessions mandatory to attend?

No, it is not mandatory to attend these online networking sessions. We provide them to help you stay motivated and to provide a platform for mutual support and inspiration among participants. Writing can sometimes feel lonely, but with your fellow writing mates and the NomadHer team, you'll have cheerleaders by your side. 🥰

Q. I have more questions about this program. Whom should I contact?

Feel free to reach out to soyeon@nomadher.com with any questions you may have. We welcome all inquiries and will respond as soon as possible. 😉
